私たちは,既成学問領域の枠組みを超えた新しい総合自然科学の構築をめざし,主に実験地球物理化学的な手法を用いて,次のような研究を行っている.

 

1. ありのままの変化を測る−地球の「聴診器」

地球の資源や環境の予測の基礎となる物質移動・反応のありのままの姿と変化をその場観測する手法を開発し,地球の「聴診器」作りを行っている.これらの手法を用いて,地球の症状の推移を診察して行きたい.

 

2.岩石・水・有機物相互作用と地球資源環境予測科学

岩石の風化・変質,資源の集積,環境汚染,ゴミ・放射性廃棄物処分場の長期安全性等に関わる岩石・水・有機物相互作用の機構と速度等を実験的に調べ,地球表層の物質移動・化学反応・物質循環の定量化と長期予測を行う.特に,これら動的過程をその場観測する手法で,反応速度定数,活性化エネルギー,拡散係数,浸透率等の基礎的な物理化学定数を求める.また,物質表面の構造化された「氷に近い」界面水の物性と熱力学的性質を検討する.生体分子と水との相互作用についても取り組んでいる.
